Storefront Theatre of Indianapolis is a professional, not-for-profit theatre company based in downtown Indy that is focused on new plays by female and minority playwrights. Storefront stages productions in the style of Chicago storefront theatres: with small and intimate settings; raw, and underscored by emotional truth.
In American theatre, there is a significant racial and gender imbalance happening behind the scenes. According to The Count (a 2015 diversity study commissioned by the Lilly Awards and The Dramatist Guild), 63% of all professional U.S. productions were by American white men. Storefront's mission is to seek out plays by female, minority and foreign writers in order to give them professional productions executed in the classic and intimate Chicago storefront style -- putting audiences as close as possible to the stories, the storytellers and to each other.
Currently in residence at IndyFringe at 719 E. St. Clair St., we are actively pursuing our permanent home. Our upcoming production of PROWESS, by Chicago playwright Ike Holter will open on June 18th.
Your donation brings exciting and important new plays to Indiana, and supports the professional artists that bring them to life.
